PROFIBUS Repeater & Hub with Redundancy - ProfiHub B5+R
The ProfiHub B5+R is a DIN rail mount PROFIBUS multi-channel repeater with five (5) galvanically isolated channels, in an IP20 enclosure. The B5+R supports Redundant PROFIBUS Channels. Create star or tree-shaped networks or isolate a problem device on its own segment. Up to 31 devices can be connected per channel (segment). The B5+R also eliminates the need for spur lines, which are often sources of network problems in PROFIBUS DP networks. Standard repeaters provide one new segment, but with the ProfiHub B5+R, 5 new segments are created. Combined with the main or backbone channel, there are total of 5+1 = 6 segments connected to the B5+R. Highly segmented PROFIBUS networks are more reliable since problems with individual devices stay within the segment and the galvanic isolation prevents the propagation of disturbances to the rest of the network. The ProfiHub is often used for Motor Control Centers (MCCs) to help isolate each “bucket” from the next. MCCs are notorious for injecting noise on PROFIBUS cables, and by isolating each bucket, the noise stays there and communications are not disrupted on the rest of the network. The B5+R sports several Redundancy features which can further improve the reliability of the network. Redundant power supplies are possible, and also the ability to create cable redundancy between ProfiHubs (or ComBricks) further improves reliability in the event of a cable break. The B5+R comes with a Diagnostic Slave capability, allowing the host system to gather information about the health of the PROFIBUS Network from the ProfiHub as a slave device. Diagnostic information provided to the PLC includes Statistics, Bus Channel information and network problems. The Diagnostic slave is activated via the rotary switch, and using the diagnostic slave does not change the repeating operation of the ProfiHub. 5 Galvanic isolated channels (segments) Each channel capable of handling up to 31 devices 5 channels accommodate a maximum of 155 devices _ 31 devices on the Main Channel No limit in serial placement or cascading of ProfiHubs Switchable termination on each segment Redundancy Redundant power supply input Redundancy cable option for 2 channels Alarm contact related to the redundant power supply and channels ProfiHub B5+R creates isolated segments for Spur line applications slave devices can now be removed and added during operation electrical bus problems and EMC disturbances in a segment do not spread to the other segments intelligent logic and isolation circuits of the ProfiHub do not change the bit width no limit to how many ProfiHubs are connected in series Other benefits include: Built-in Diagnostic Slave capability Short circuit protection on each channel Compact and robust construction Screw terminals and DB9 connectors can be mixed Conveniently arranged networks Extendable installations Cost savings through reduced installation complexity
