Description Magnum needles are among the most commonly used tattoo needles today. Also known as magnum shaders or just magnums, they consist of two stacked layers of needle points grouped together in a curved or flat configuration. When reading different magnum sizes (5M, 7M, 9M, and others), note that the numeral indicates the number of needle points in the group. Magnum needles are used for a variety of techniques and applications: Permanent Makeup (PMU) Lipstick Effect Lips: When used in PMU lip procedures, magnum needles are especially useful for achieving the so-called “lipstick effect.” Technicians can use it to layer and blend colors, creating fuller and more defined lips, with a tint that’s similar to what lipsticks provide. Brow Work: Magnum needles are preferred for eyebrow procedures on challenging skin types. Their large size and configuration increase the efficiency of pigment deposition, helping technicians effectively fill in sparse brows or cover areas with scar tissue.
