1940 Gibson A-50 Mandolin - Used

The A-50 designation has been used on various Gibson mandolins over the years, but this version from 1940 is perhaps the finest one. This variation has a larger "bell" shaped body and a longer scale length than the standard A-shape we are familiar with. This combination gives the A-50 a bit more pop and projection than other, smaller A-50s. It has a carved spruce top with large f-holes, highly figured maple back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fretboard with Nick Lucas-style fingerboard inlays. The peghead features an inlaid "Gibson" logo and a fleur-de-lis inlay. This mandolin is in fine structural condition and good cosmetic condition. There is one small repaired crack in the top near the tailpiece. This is a scarce model and we haven’t offered one for sale in over a decade. Includes a modern hardshell case.
