A fine example of a Gibson acoustic archtop model we don't see very often. There haven't been many changes to this example, but the celluloid buttons on the Kluson tuners are correct-style replacements, the center seam of the top has been repaired beneath the tailpiece, and it's had an excellent refret. The neck profile is that to-die-for late 1940s/early 'fifties shape found on the earliest Les Paul models. Not that it really matters, but the 2240 FON stamped on the inside of the back, plus the serial number being less than 50 numbers past the "approx. last number" for 1949, both suggest this L-4 was actually constructed in 1949. This is in excellent condition throughout, with original bridge and tailpiece, a classic mid-century Gibson in every way (the original laminated pickguard with beveled edge is somewhat cupped but still functions OK). There's very little surface wear to the original lacquer, and the original Lifton case is in excellent shape as well.
