Here's a great example of one of the best American 12-string guitars of modern times, both in terms of sound and style. Designed by Leo Kottke and Bob Taylor, this model was intended to be tuned low (to C# instead of E) and the big 17" body really delivers the bass such a low tuning brings forward. (You can also tune this guitar in regular tuning by changing to lighter strings). This example is original throughout, and the lack of fret wear suggests it's been resting for much of its 28 year life so far. There are some dings to the finish on the top, but almost none anywhere else. The only crack is the tiniest of hairlines, just below the bridge, which isn't going anywhere since it's covered on the inside by the bridge plate. Paper Signature Series Taylor label signed by Leo Kottke. 12-string guitars were usually tuned low when the model gained popularity in the 1930s (think Leadbelly) and if you haven't explored the sonic options such a tuning allows, consider giving it a try. It's a brave new (old) world of big bold tone!
