This Martin 00-16DBM is a cool and fairly uncommon model that Martin built in 2000 as part of their “Women and Music” series, which ran from the late ‘90s into the early 2000s. It’s a deep-body 00 with mahogany top, back, and sides, and that extra body depth (same as a Dreadnought) gives it a surprisingly full and woody tone for its size, with plenty of warmth in the midrange. The “Women and Music” project was spearheaded by Diane Ponzio and involved artists like Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell. It aimed to make more inclusive instruments for women players and helped raise funds for breast cancer research. The 00-16DBM also has a few unusual design touches, including a slotted headstock paired with a 14-fret neck joint (a combo you almost never see on a Martin these days) and hybrid scalloped A-frame X bracing under the top. It’s very comfortable to play, with the smaller 00 body, short scale, and 1 11/16" nut width making it an easy fit for just about anyone. The look is understated ove
