As you might have guessed from his last name, Lulo Reinhardt comes from the extended family of musicians that includes his uncles Schnuckenack Reinhardt and Dawelie Reinhardt and the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. Unlike most of his kin, who have focused on swing and other jazz idioms, Lulo’s music has a strong Latin feel, with a dash of flamenco. Rather than play a guitar with steel strings, he has opted for a guitar with nylon strings. The Daimen, which he designed with the luthiers at Kremona, is a hybrid nylon string guitar that is perfectly suited to his eclectic style. Unlike most nylon string guitars, the Daimen has a 14-fret neck that, when combined with the cutaway, allows easy access to the highest frets. The nut measures 48mm (about 1 /3/4”) and the fretboard has a radius, two features that help make this guitar feel familiar to a steel string guitarist.
