The Psycho Mantis

I designed the The Psycho Mantis to match the profile of the big mantis shrimp we were finding around the coral flats of the Faraway Keys base camp.  They ranged in color from white, tan, olive and bright green. These mantis are  like chameleons, blending into any background. We knew from watching the permit smash against the rocks those were what they were eating. This is a universal pattern that works on any flat you find coral. The fly produces instant reactions and continues to trick some of the most educated permit we encounter.  The Psycho Mantis uses a custom combination of Live Resin 3D eyes, highly animating claws, micro rubber legs, contrasting rubber legs, and a multi-colored rabbit belly that pulsates and moves. Hot orange dumbbells and a weed guard balance the Psycho so that it swims naturally and lands softly. We tie the Psycho Mantis on a premium Umpqua XH Flats Jig Hook for a perfect keel and hook set!
