After the triumphant success of the 'Stay Hungry' LP, Jay Jay French, a seasoned Gibson guitar player of 15 years, embarked on a quest for a new guitar endorsement. His chosen ally in this musical journey was Guild Guitars. Introduced to Guild president Mark Dronge at the 1985 NAMM show, Jay Jay forged a strong relationship with the company and exclusively wielded their instruments for the following two years.The Guild Skyhawk X-79 emerged as the model that resonated most with Jay Jay. Guild crafted several of these guitars for him, including iconic yellow and black striped as well as pink and black striped versions. A unique request for a solid yellow Skyhawk ensured there was no confusion with Stryper’s guitars!The yellow and black Skyhawk gained fame as it proudly adorned a New York City pizza parlor co-owned by Jay Jay in the 1990s.
