Sri Ganesh, also known as Lord Ganesha, is one of the most beloved and widely worshipped deities in Hinduism. He is known as the remover of obstacles and the god of new beginnings, intellect, wisdom, and knowledge. Ganesh is usually depicted as a plump, elephant-headed figure with a potbelly and four arms. He is often shown with a single tusk, which is broken off, and is believed to have been lost while he was writing the epic Mahabharata with his pen, known as the ankusha. He is also commonly depicted holding a sweet delicacy in one hand and his favorite implement, the axe, in another. According to Hindu mythology, Ganesh was created by the goddess Parvati to guard her bath chamber, and his elephant head was given to him by Lord Shiva after he mistakenly beheaded him. Ganesh is also said to have written the epic Mahabharata when the original author, the sage Vyasa, could not complete it due to a mental block. Ganesh is widely worshipped throughout Nepal and India, and is often invoked
