[ENGRAVING] Asylum, Newport, R. I. Boston: Samuel Walker, 1846. [11042] The full leaf measures 9 x 11 1/2 inches. The engraving is about 8 x 6 inches. Some edge-wear that will not be visible when matted and framed; a little foxing on one corner of the engraving.  Good. This was built in 1819 by the city of Newport as the Newport Asylum and Poor House. It was built on Coasters Harbor Island. The residents were the poor, drunkards, homeless, and the mentally ill. It is now part of the U.S. Naval War College. Removed from The History and Topography of The United States of North America...&c. By John Howard Hinton, Boston: 1846. Artist: G. Wall; engraved by J.
