Even in modern times, in many faith traditions, the use of light and fire represents safety, warmth, and hope of renewal or restoration of what has been lost or separated. We use candles and other symbols to represent our belief in the eternal nature of love that can never be extinguished.  Today, our spirituality, our souls, live and die together based on the communities that we form and the caring that we give to one another. To tend to the flame, the spirituality, the little sanctuaries that burn within each of us, we must nurture our environments. Look to this piece as a painterly expression of shining light in life, as a symbol for both hope and healing that may also be seen in the metaphorical use of the phrase “the light at the end of the tunnel.” When viewing Eternal Flame, I hope it serves as a reminder of the heart’s capacity to overcome darkness and as an assuran
