Pictured is Thokla Pass Memorial, a solemn site atop a steep incline along the trail to Everest Base Camp. Appearing as dark figures materializing in the thick fog on the rim of the slight depression along the trail, tributes to climbers who have died while attempting summits in the Himalayan range come into view. The rock piles, adorned with prayer flags, inscriptions, and photographs, serve as both a remembrance and a warning for the living of the real danger and challenges of mountaineering in this austere environment. This Memorial, draped in prayer flags, honors those who lost their lives. May they rest in Peace. The Anthropology collection celebrates the diversity of humanity and different walks of life all united in the quintessential simplicity of being part of one human race.
