Diabetes is an ever-increasing problem in the United States. Over the years a combination of our sedentary lifestyles and our choice of Standard American Diet foods has led to a rise in cases of Type 2 diabetes across all ages, races and sexes. The Impact of Diabetes on the USA According to the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, diabetes is the eight leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of heart disease and stroke.  The CDC's stats for 2021 show that diabetes affects 38.4 million people, which is 11.6% of the U.S. population. Of the adult population, 38.1 million (14.7%) of all U.S. adults had diabetes, both diagnosed and undiagnosed cases. Further, an estimated 97.6 million adults (38.0%) had prediabetes, based on fasting glucose or A1C levels. 352,000 youths under the age of 20 had diabetes (304,00 type 1 and 48,000 type 2) in the United States in 2021.
