FINE SILVER & ENAMEL MOUNTED WOOD CROSS MT ATHOS 18THC

A VERY FINE SILVER AND GEMSTONE MOUNTED CARVED BOXWOOD CRUCIFIX, MT. ATHOS, 18TH CENTURY. The double-sided cross form carved with the crucifixion on one side and with the Four Evangelists at the cross ends. The verso carved with the Baptism of Christ. Contained in a presumably silver filigree and cloisonné enameled mount set with coral, seed pearls, and faux gemstones. Overall height 6.6 inches (17 cm).
