"Hickory King" was introduced by A. O. Lee of Hickory, Virginia back in 1880. This is a white, open-pollinated heirloom variety that produces plants that can get as large as 12' - 13' tall and will produce very large ears of corn. Ears have tight husks which do a great job of protecting the ears from beetles and worms naturally. Plants do have a strong root structure which will support the very tall foliage making it perfect for silage. Hickory King Dent Corn is a perfect variety for old time roasting ears when corn is harvested in the milking stage and also a very tasty option to be ground into cornmeal for cornbread, hominy and grits.
