Genuine Paraiba Tourmaline is one of the most sought after varieties of Tourmaline. True Paraiba Tourmaline gets its lovely Caribbean blue coloring from Copper and only comes from Paraiba, Brazil. This is the first time the Copper has even been found to cause the coloring in Tourmaline. Often people claim similar colored Tourmaline from other locations as Paraiba, but it must come from the State of Paraiba. Price should be evident in this as well as specimens / gems from Paraiba will be or should be much more expensive than their counterparts from other locations like Nigeria or Mozambique. This specimen is what the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) would consider semi translucent. Light comes through the stone, but it is not so clear that you could read through it. This stone is part of a group that was tested at the GIA and came back as being genuine from Paraiba, Brazil. This cabochon has intense saturation which is highly desirable in this variety of Tourmaline. It would be st
