Stoltzfus String Bean introduced around 1888, it was selected by Beachy Amish from a bean called “Early Refugee.” This is a very old bean and written about in Pennsylvania colonial gardens as early as 1723. The pods are 6-6.5” long with 5-6 beans per pod grown on a bush. The beans are a beautiful dark purple with lavender specks. The provenance of this bean is from David Haas, (my Grandfather) of Lancaster County PA. When I worked for William Woys Weaver he told me that this bean was extinct until I brought him the jar of beans I got from pop. About 10 sustainable seeds.
