Renogy's DC to DC MPPT on-board Battery Charger is designed to give you options! This multi-stage, multi-input battery charger can charge a service battery from a starting battery linked to an alternator or by utilizing solar panels connected directly to the unit. While your vehicle's alternator prioritizes your starting battery, this unit will allow your solar system to charge your service battery first! It's the smart way to keep yourself fully charged and off-grid longer! And with multi-stage charging and multi-chemistry functionality, Renogy's DC to DC MPPT Charger has you covered whether you're using Flooded, Gel, AGM, or Lithium batteries. With RJ45 communication port featured, you can unlock monitoring features exclusively using the BT-2 Bluetooth Module and Renogy DC Home App, control and monitor the device remotely through your phone in real time. PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS Monitoring with Renogy ONE Core Elevate your energy monitoring capabilities by incorporating Renogy ONE Core, providing intuitive visual data and real-time insights. It seamlessly integrates with our 3-in-1 smart panel, enhancing your energy management experience. Multi-Input Efficiency Charging The Renogy DC-DC Battery Charger offers unique dual charging options. This multi-stage, multi-input battery charger efficiently charges your house battery from either a starter battery connected to the car alternator or solar panels directly linked to the unit. Simultaneous charging through both methods minimizes charging time, boasting up to 99% MPPT tracking efficiency and 94% conversion efficiency. Ingenious Structure Design Transport and daily use safety is a priority with removable side covers, preventing contact between product terminals and the human body to avoid electrostatic damage. The all-in-one NEG- terminal features a partition design that simplifies installation by integrating terminals for solar panels, the array starter battery, and the house battery, reducing the risk of misconnections. Diversified Smart Monitoring Utilizing the Modbus protocol, the Renogy 30A DC-DC Battery Charger ensures compatibility with various monitoring devices, including the RMS-DCDC monitoring screen, DC Home App, and Renogy One integrated screen. This enables effortless energy management and remote monitoring across diverse scenarios. Soft Start Circuit Design To prevent potential damage to the battery charger or over-discharge of the starter battery when the vehicle alternator starts, the Renogy 30A DC-DC battery charger gently raises the input voltage. This safeguard ensures your vehicle starts without issues. Comprehensive Security Assurance Renogy's DC-DC Battery Charger holds multiple certifications, including CE, FCC, and PoHs. It incorporates multiple intelligent protections, including battery isolation, over-voltage protection, battery temperature protection, over-current protection, overheat protection, reverse current protection, and solar panel and alternator reverse polarity protection. These safeguards guarantee safe charging and protect your batteries. Note: More questions about your off-grid power system? Learn more from Renogy Learning Center! FAQ What Type of Alternator Is This On-Board Battery Charger Compatible With? This battery charger is compatible with both traditional and smart alternators. However, since a standard/traditional alternator has a fixed voltage when charging, and a smart alternator has a controlled charging output based on operating conditions, it is required to connect the charger to the smart alternator through the Vehicle Ignition Port using the IGN Signal Wire provided in the package. What Will Happen If the Service Battery Is Fully Charged? This Renogy DC to DC MPPT on-board Battery Charger is equipped with a built-in Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR). When the service battery is fully charged, the charger will switch to Trickle Charge mode to maintain the service battery's fully charged status. Additionally, it will also Trickle Charge the starting battery via solar panels. The VSR ensures reliable isolation between the starting battery and service battery, preventing charging interference. What Types of Batteries Does the Charger Support? This charger supports Gel, AGM, Flooded, and Lithium batteries. Ensure that you correctly set the battery type once it is installed. For battery settings, please refer to the Manual Book on page 12 and 15. How Do I Set the Battery Type Since There Is No Display Screen? To change the battery type, press the push button located on the PV+ and ALT+ side of the DCDC. Continue pressing the button, and the LED will display different colors, with each color representing a specific battery type. For more details, please refer to the manual on page 15 for Battery Type LED. Notes: Do not reverse the polarity when connecting the battery, as reversed polarity can cause injury and damage to the device. Ensure the battery poles are clean when connecting the terminals. Select a sufficient cross-section for the connection cable and tighten the nuts and bolts with the proper torque, as loose connections can lead to overheating. Avoid over-torquing the terminals on the DCDC, as this can cause irreparable damage. Do not exceed 16 N-m / 3.3 ft-lb. If the battery charger is connected to both the starting battery and solar panels simultaneously, the maximum input current will be 25A for each. If the battery charger only connects to one of the two DC inputs, the maximum input current will be 50A.
