Variety: Syrah and Viognier  The story of Clos Saron began in 1995 when the Renaissance vineyard was developed in the Sierra Foothills in California. The site and the wines it created harkened back to the 1970s Golden Age of California. Winemaker Gideon Beinstock is known as an OG as far as Californian producers go. The Renaissance vineyard was originally maintained by a cult that Gideon used to run around with. After breaking ties with these folks, Gideon was banned from the vineyard. Gideon was eventually allowed access to some back vintage wines originally made.  An ode to the famous Cote Rotie blend of the northern Rhone, but planted at 1900 feet elevation on rocky 2-acre vineyards. Due to the unique infertile soil and its wildly hot climate, the vines sort of shut down during ripening allowing the fruit a longer season, and ultimately yields a wine that has moderate alcohol and medium bodied. Just 115 cases were made.
