Fox sedge can tolerate those areas that are seasonally flooded and then go dry for weeks at a time (once established). It will stay mostly evergreen throughout the year, but will decrease in size over the winter. If you are unhappy with its appearance, you can cut it back in late winter, but its brown foliage will soon disappear with new growth. It will grow best in full sun, but will do fine in filtered sunlight. Sedges provide critical habitat and food for numerous species of animals–don’t leave them out of the landscape!
