AP Biology Investigation #12 - Fruit Fly Behavior
Experiment kit designed to teach and demonstrate animal behavior as a result of various stimuli, and offer experience in experiment design Using fruit flies as test subjects, students will test whether flies will move towards or away from the scent of chemicals and food that helps them survive, then come up with their own experiment Kit contains enough material for 8 groups, including chemicals, and student exercise copymasters - a voucher for perishable fruit fly cultures is included in the kit This experiment is designed for use in AP Biology classrooms and coursework, and meets AP Science Practices 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, as well as Big Idea 4 Safety data sheets included to inform safe storage and maintenance of chemicals Students will study whether fruit flies move towards or away from important chemicals and food that aid in their survival. Using the Innovating Science choice behavior chamber, behaviors of the fruit flies are observed, and any pattern can be identified. Students wi
