Beethoven: Overtures & Incidental Music

Much has been written about Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, formerly Leonore. Beethoven worked on it on and off for almost a decade. During that time the four different overtures included on this recording were composed. They are substantially different, not only in length but also in themes, while the Fidelio overture is composed in a different key and uses no material from the opera itself. (Vox Classics)
