This disc consists almost exclusively of first recordings, combining a representative selection of Ludwig Hartmann’s ‘Lieder’ (Songs) with five of his translations of operatic arias by Georges Bizet, Giacomo Puccini and Ruggiero Leoncavallo; a short extract from Wagner’s Tannhäuser (premiered at Dresden in 1845); an aria from Schumann’s Genoveva and three of his Goethe-Lieder (completed in Dresden), as well as three Lieder by the unjustly forgotten and only recently rediscovered composer Adolf Jensen.
