This intriguing new release features two works of the same title, La Dirindina. Domenico Scarlatti wrote his Intermezzo La Dirindina in 1715 as an intermezzo during the opera Ambleto, but was pulled from the program by church censors due to its racy subject matter. When Padre Giovanni Battisti Martini found the libretto used by Scarlatti, he set it to music in 1737. In contrast to Scarlatti’s setting, Martini’s was more ready to enter the standard repertoire.
