Antique Kashkuli Qashqa'i Pillow - 2' x 4'

CURRENTLY ON HOLD  This Qashqa'i bagface was handwoven by the Kashkuli during the late 19th century and has been stuffed for use as a pillow. It features a large latch-hooked diamond medallion filled with a central talish rosette connected to four further rosettes in each direction with various smaller rosettes and protection symbols on brick red ground.  The very full central medallion appears outright spacious next to the deep navy field which surrounds it and is crowded with an abundance of rosettes that appear like flowers growing wild in a lush field. The vibrant palette of blues, purples, orange, yellow and red is accentuated in the tightly rendered scrolling vine work border and pops against the white ground. The original kilim backing is intact and showcases a naturally undulating Rothko-esque red field framed by the serrated edges of a soft but glowing green outer border. IThe Kashkuli, a subtribe of the Qashqa'i, are considered by many to be the best weavers of the confederat
