Antique Quchan Kurd Rug - 4’ x 6’8
This rug was woven by the Quchan Kurds of Khorasan during the late 19th century. It features a central "Hawzi" motif with three memling guls on the top and the bottom in primary colors of red, yellow and blue with ivory and brown accents on a brick red ground . The "Hawzi" or water tank design is architecturally inspired and references the water reservoirs found in gardens, mosques and village squares. Framed by a series of interesting borders including a main border that shifts from rams heads along the sides to both single running dog and double running dog motifs on the top and bottom respectively. In Very Good condition with minimal wear and one small patch.
