Antique Labijar Kilim - 5'7 x 9'6

This kilim was handwoven in Northern Afghanistan during the early 20th century. It features a bold and graphic pattern of interwoven diamonds filled with saturated tones of navy, red-orange, or ivory.  Each diamond contains a small polygon with a central "x" like device. It is framed by wide side borders of right triangles which sandwich smaller borders of right triangle segments on the top and bottom. The composition is finished with a perimeter of undyed brown wool. These kilims are generally thought to have been woven by the so-called Uzbek "Arabs" of the Middle Amu Darya region were Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan overlap.  In good condition. Flatwoven with dense wool and a hefty handle. Very durable for a kilim.
