This Beshir Turkmen rug was handwoven during the second quarter of the twentieth century along the Amu Darya river in Central Asia. It features one large central medallion and four smaller medallions on the top and bottom of this wide and narrow format which is common for the type. The medallions sit at an all-over design of an abstracted herati variation with wide leaves, rounded rosettes, and arrow-like forms. It is a simple yet effective palette of red, brown, ivory, yellow light, and dark blue. The ivory details add movement and contrast to the patterning. Framed by various borders of tulips, evil eyes, and eight-pointed rosettes. Finished with striped kilim ends and the subtle use of sawtooth patterning in the selvedge which is both an uncommon and wonderful embellishment.  In very good condition with some missing fringe and areas of very light color run. With low but full pile that is dense with a heavy handle.    Size: 6'1 x 12'9 [1.85m x 3.87m] Age: Q2 20th century (1925-1950)
