Green Turkmen Robe - 4’2 x 4’10

A hand sewn vintage silk chapan or overcoat from the Turkmen of Northern Afghanistan.  A chapan which means "sewn together" in Turkic is an overcoat that is adorned with detailed threading come in a variety of colors and patterns. It is traditionally worn throughout Central Asia. This lovely chapan is crafted from green wool. It is embroidered with an array of tones including black, red, white, orange and purple around its perimeter and up the sides. The tendrils of a tree of life or other plant form are found aroudn the slits on both sides.
