This is a large katazome floor covering or heath covering (kotatsugake). It is backed with a variety of commercial shima cottons and is sashiko stitched together. It is in practically unused condition and would be perfectly suitable for a small area rug or a decorative coverall for a bed. The katazome fabric employs a pattern of kiku or chrysanthemum flowers, climbing vine and foliage on a botanical indigo background. There is a grey contrasting stencil dye to the pedals and vines giving the design a subtle and elegant accent. Mid 1900'sDimensions: Width: 62"; Length 60"
