Some say baseball was first introduced to Panama by laborers from the United States building the Panamá Railroad in 1855. Organized baseball is believed to have been played in Panama since the early 1880’s. The first professional league was founded in 1946. Many of the teams were named after their sponsors such as Spur Cola, Carta Vieja, and Marlboro. Today the league is known as Béisbol Profesional de Panamá or Probeis for short and currently consists of four teams. The champion of the league goes on to represent Panama in the Serie del Caribe. Panama has won two Serie del Caribe Championships 1950 & 2019. Our hat honors the long history of Panamanians that have donned the red, white, and blue.
