Baseball was first introduced to Venezuela in the 1910’s. Workers from the United States flooding into the country to work in the booming oil business brought the love and tools of the game with them. Venezuela embraced the sport, and it quickly became the game of choice among Venezuelans. The Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional was established in 1945, although organized teams like the Navegantes del Magallanes can trace their team roots back even further. Players like Miguel Cabrera, José Altuve, and pitcher Félix Hernández have left their mark on today’s Major League Baseball rosters. Our hat pays homage to all the Venezolanos who continue the baseball tradition.
