República Dominicana Snapback Original
Today Las Grandes Ligas is heavily dominated by Dominican born players, but it was not always like that. Baseball goes back to the 1870’s on the island. Many believe it was first introduced to the D.R. by Cuban expats fleeing the Ten Years’ War. Teams such as the Nuevo Club and the Ozama were the first to be established. By 1907 the team Licey was founded in the capital of Santo Domingo. Throughout the early years the Dominican Republic hosted numerous Negro League stars such as pitching legend Satchel Paige. Today all 30 MLB teams host a baseball complex on the island. The winter league Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la República Dominicana, better known as the LIDOM, dominates radios and televisions on the island. The winner of the LIDOM goes on to represent the island at the Serie de Caribe every year. Our República Dominicana hat pays homage to all the Dominicans that keep the game thriving on the island.
