Time Rising (2012) - Dan Becker

for String Quartet Commissioned by Ives Quartet Time Rising uses flight as a metaphor for how any rich and dynamic activity is comprised of a few fundamental components.  Therefore movements 1-3 are "miniatures" which present some of the core elements needed: "sky, wind, wings", to manifest the final result of flying.  Or to put it another way, there's almost a chemical reaction between the materials in movements 1-3 which generates the much longer fourth movement, "Fly".
