From time to time we find these beautiful hand-hewn betel-nut boxes. They date to the early 20th century, and are from Indonesia or Nepal or northern India. Originally used to store and serve betel-nuts, tobacco, spices and leaves. In contemporary use, the compartments and divisions make for handy keepers of keys and keepsakes. These two are from Java, Indonesia. Box A is approx. 11" x 8" x 4". Box B is approx. 13" x 9" x 5.5".
