Holly, Ilex vertilcillata 'Sparkleberry.'  USDA zones 5-9. This is a female plant. A good pollinator for this is the male plant 'Southern Gentleman.' For good fruiting on the female Hollies, include about one male for each 4-5 females. It is a vigorous growing, upright rounded shrub with glossy, dark green summer foliage that turns yellow-green to purple-bronze in fall. It tolerates both wet and dry soils well. Grows upright, with rounded growth, makes a great hedge. Grows 6-10' tall and wide. Nectar is especially important to native bees These are bare root plants, 8"-12" + roots. These can easily be sent to you and economically established in your yard or garden. Rooted cuttings are started from a parent plant and have all the same qualities as the parent. They can either be planted in pots, or directly in the ground. You can even bury a bundle of them in a pile of mulch for a week, a month, over over winter, covering all roots but leaving the foliage above the surface of the mulch.
