Magnolia, Sweet Bay. Magnolia virginiana (species). USDA z5-10. This magnolia tree is native to the eastern US as far north as New York. It features cup-shaped, sweetly scented, creamy white flowers in the spring, continuing sometimes until early summer. It grows 15-30' high, usually with a rounded crown. Prefers full sun to part shade, and can tolerate wet soils. May need winter protection in zone 5.
