Willow, Pussy. Salix discolor (species). USDA z4-8. This willow is a native of the eastern and midwest US. It is dioecious (with separate male and female plants). The males have showy pearl-gray, silky, catkins on otherwise bare branches in late winter. Females have smaller, greenish catkins. Grows 6-15' tall in medium to wet soils, in full sun to part shade.
