1950s Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 For The AOPA
Why This Watch Matters An all-black Navitimer is always special. The Full Story The Navitimer was released in the early 1950s with pilots in mind. In fact, it was actually developed with the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), which is why the AOPA logo is on the dial. There is still controversy around the exact release date, but it is now believed that 1954 would be the most likely starting point. In any case, the early Navi came with an all-black dial, and for a short period of time, a Valjoux 72 chronograph movement. Then the Venus 178 stepped in, and eventually the dial design evolved into a reverse panda configuration. This example has aged beautifully; what's not to love about this early Navitimer 806 with its characteristic beaded bezel?
