Why This Watch Matters Art Deco style rose-gold numerals and bold dauphine hands give this Eterna dress watch a bit of an edge. The Full Story A prosperous watch manufacturer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Eterna traces its roots back to 1856, and maintained a presence in Swiss watchmaking until the early 1980s, before recently returning to life. This example from the 1950s was produced during the heyday of Eterna, as their most successful innovation, the first automatic winding movement, was produced in 1948. This watch, however, houses a beautiful manually wound movement in a sharp, thin case with oversized angled lugs. The most striking part? The rose-gold applied numerals and indexes paired with beautiful rose-gold dauphine hands and a simple dial layout.
