Bose 301 Series III, Classic "Direct Reflecting" Design
Following his very first speaker designs in the early 1970s, Dr. Amar Bose started on a new and different path. After an exhaustive study of psychoacoustics and the effects of live performances on individual listening experiences, Bose developed the legendary 901 speaker system. The crux of the 901 design was the "Direct Reflecting" concept, where two speaker drivers would fire directly at the listening space and another sixteen would fire at the listener's front wall, reflecting sound around the room at random intervals. All of this to mimic the nature of live performance venues. Once this idea caught on, Bose developed companion models to go with the 901. One of these, and probably one of Bose's most successful speaker designs to-date, was the 301.
