The Carver M-400a power amplifier is unique in electronic and mechanical design. Bob Carver made a name for himself very early in his career with innovative amplifier designs while working as an engineer at Phase Linear in the 1970s.  Shortly thereafter, he founded Carver Corporation in 1979.  Known for eeking out the absolute most power as possible from reasonably simple, discrete circuits, Carver’s amplifiers have become legendary and very collectible.   The M-400a can be used as a single-channel or dual-channel power amplifier with very high efficiency of weight, size, heat dissipation and with very low distortion and noise. Intended for use in the home hifi systems, this amp is capable of extremely high power output with excellent speaker load-drive capability.  One of the key factors in Carver’s design was the “sliding idle bias current” which contributed to the low heat dissipation and high efficiency at the output stage.
