A handmade (cross-stitched) icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker portrays the beloved saint with a gentle countenance, dressed in bishop's robes and holding a Gospel book and blessing the viewer. St. Nicholas is revered in both Eastern Orthodox and Western Christian traditions, known as a miracle worker and protector of sailors, children, and the needy. The icon symbolized compassion, generosity, and the miraculous intercession of St. Nicholas in the lives of believers. This work required approximately 400 hours of needlepoint handwork using these materials: 30+ different colored threads on embroidery canvas cloth. Total size: 19" x 24" --- This icon is made by a pious Russian Orthodox immigrant who is trying to support herself through her icon work.
