This impressive print is of the original artwork “Winter Landscape with Skaters and A Bird Trap” by Flemish painter, Pieter Bruegel. It is thought that this painting was inspired by the particularly harsh winters of circa 1564/1565.  You can see the bird trap in the foreground on the right side as well as the ice skaters in the background. There are beliefs of the symbolism of both the birds and ice skaters- representing the slippery nature of life and looming perils that wait close by, such as the bird trap.  This reproduction print would be absolutely stunning displayed on your mantel this holiday season, as photographed. The substantial size, the creamy matte and the warmth of the print itself make this a desirable piece to add to your home this Christmas. Our research indicates that this may likely be an original 1960s Shorewood Publishers lithograph.
