In Hawaiian legend, Pele was in love with 'Ōhia, but 'Ōhia's heart already belonged to Lehua. In a fit of jealousy, Pele transformed 'Ōhia into a gnarled tree, with Lehua as it's blossoms. It is said that when you pick the lehua flower, rain comes, signifying the sadness of separating the two lovers. 'Ōhia lehua is endemic to Hawai'i. Its incredible ability to thrive in harsh volcanic landscapes has made it a metaphor for the Hawaiian people's own resilience in the face of challenges. These crops are designed and screen printed on Maui. They are 5.5 oz., soft-washed, 100% combed ring-spun cotton. They feature a crew neck, drop shoulder, are ultra soft, side-seamed, and tightly knit.
