Shame, as difficult as it can feel sometimes, has a purpose in our lives. Sometimes, it can help signal that we need to take action to make a situation right. Or apologize to someone for a less-than-ideal action. But there is another side of shame. A more insidious side that lies to us and tries to get us to take action when no action is needed. That's when we need to acknowledge the part of us trying to protect us and then recognize we are okay and safe. Here are words from our founder, CJ, describing his relationship with shame and inspiration for creating this new character: "For as long as I can remember, shame has been in my life. Making me feel wrong for almost everything I did and believed I was. I apologize to people for not doing wrong on my part. I would lay in bed, stomach twisted, ruminating on everything I had done that day, and shame would sit on my chest, pushing me into the bed.
