Areca Palm The Areca palm, also known as Dypsis lutescens or the butterfly palm, is a popular indoor plant characterized by its feathery, arching fronds that emerge from a slender, yellow-green trunk. The Areca palm is relatively easy to care for, thriving in bright indirect light and well-draining soil. These plants grow fast and unlike most plants that suffer if they are root-bound, palms seem to do okay if their roots are a little crammed.  Care and Maintenance They prefer bright light with indirect sun and love high humidity. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry to touch. Keep this plant away from direct sun as it may scorch it's leaves.
