Japanese Glazed Porcelain Shishi Lions Foo Dogs
A beautiful pair of Japanese porcelain shishi lions, also known as Komainu or foo dogs in the Western culture. They are guardian statues that can be found in Japan guarding the entrance to temples and shrines, and are said to symbolize prosperity, success, and guardianship. They are the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese foo dogs. Because of their protective symbolism, shishi lions are traditionally placed to flank the entrance of the home and should be displayed in places where they are sure to be noticed. Place this pair on a console in the foyer, or make them a focal point of the living room atop of the mantel.
