This stunning stoneware offering is handmade to perfection by potters based out of the French capital of India, Puducherry. Nearly five decades ago, modern pottery and making of stoneware products began here and later spread to different parts of India. It all started in the 1970s when Deborah Smith who studied pottery in the United States, shifted to Puducherry to follow the spiritual guru, Sri Aurobindo. She set up craft shops and taught the locals the art of pottery. This led to the genesis of pottery in Puducherry. The relationship between hands and clay is the basis of this unique art form. The craft is poetry in motion – the way a potter molds clay, giving it form, shape, and definition, is absolutely breathtaking!
